Pavey survives Dakar's toughest day

BMW Off-Road Skills instructor Simon Pavey finished yesterday's tenth stage of the
Telefònica-Dakar Rally in 80th position and is currently 82nd in the overall standings. The BMW
F650 GS rider finished yesterday's 483km special stage after almost ten hours of riding in difficult
dune conditions, although this is a lot less time than it has taken for participants to cover some of
the rally's earlier stages.

The marathon stage was won by Frenchman Cyril Despres, with Italian Frank Meoni second and
Spanish born Esteve Pujol third. This stage win gifted Despres the overall leadership of the Dakar,
with Meoni second and Marc Coma third in the standings.

Unpredictable weather patterns have hampered overall progress in this year's event, and
consequently the organisers have decided to shorten today's special stage from Atar to Kiffa. It
is expected by many to be the toughest stage of the entire rally and therefore, due to the
continuing inclement weather conditions, the special will now end at the originally planned CP2.

This actually shortens the stage distance by over 250 km. From CP2 the competitors will then head
to the Kiffa bivouac via tarmac roads, where we will hope to bring you further news of Team
Dome BMW's Simon Pavey.
